Chronique : Agua De Annique - Air (2007)

The first postcard solo Anneke van Giersbergen is a demonstration. It shows that the young woman is an artist. True, one that has something to say. Finally, it demonstrates that his departure from The Gathering, a group in which it operates like a fish in water, was obviously not due to musical differences endless! But a review of the facts needed to begin.

When a few months ago, we learned, stunned, the decision to leave the beautiful Dutch ship, it's like the universe, of a sudden collapsed. It was the end of a great story started twelve years ago with the release of matrix Mandilyon, a masterpiece that has single-handedly sounded the motion of all the metal singer. People wondered what fly might well have bitten the singer. Was it related to its recent status as a mother?

What was our surprise on learning that she had on the fire a new project! And if at first we are worried for it, but rather to his former employers that must ultimately lead because, after all, it is they who ultimately have the most to lose. Agua De Annique proves the best way possible!

While The Gathering will probably all the trouble to rebuild (no doubt, however, that the group will do so ...), Anneke gave birth to an album that seems to have been touched by divine grace, a subtly different album The Gathering even if it remains very close, especially his last three offerings, If_Then_Else, Souvenirs and Home, as evidenced by the beginning of "Ice Water" and "Trail Of Grief."

Besides, how could it be otherwise, even more so when the singer decides to survey land nearby, those of metal atmospheric and melancholic emotional, after all, has it not been the keystone of music Dutch? The group identified itself so much to her, her charm, her crystalline voice that this relationship is understandable.

Sometimes edgy ("Witness," "You Are Nice!"), Often diaphanous, sadness painful ("Come Wander With Me"), these songs can only be charmed from the very beginning. Simple, clean, they are sometimes enhanced with a flute, a trumpet, a male voice, when it's not Kristin Fjelltseth Pale Forest, which is accompanied Anneke ("Lost And Found," which oozes a desperate melancholy to Tenhi).

Above all, there is that voice. This voice. That voice gives you chills. This disgrace to give voice to all the singers of the galaxy. The Dutchman has just one class, a unique charm that allow it to hover while up there. As soon as she appears on "Beautiful One", his song takes off and takes us, guide intoxicating, a journey whose beauty attracted much it upsets sad.

Does this mean that Air could have been an album of The Gathering? So yes and no because the sound is not quite the same. The Rutten brothers have a way of composing, playing, their own, which is lacking here. But it is never far away. This can only bring trouble into the heart of fans. Anneke Why is it gone? No doubt that the other group members did not allow him sufficient amplitude. No doubt she wanted to be, finally, his own master and demonstrate that it holds the capacity to exist without The Gathering. In any case, the bet is won. A clear horizon, clear, open it now. Now we wait with interest for news of her former home port ... 8.5/10
