La faute aussi à des travaux tels que Malevolent Grain et Black Cascade qui nétaient pas parvenus non plus à égaler la flamboyance obscure de Two Hunters (2007). Il y a d'ailleurs beaucoup de Diadem Of 12 Stars et de Two Hunters dans cette exploration qui ravive le brasier d'un Black Metal mû par des vibrations mystiques provenant d'un humus terreux.
L'oeuvre doit beaucoup à son formidable titre d'ouverture, 'Thuja Magus Imperium" dont le chant féminin habité renvoit par sa ténébreuse et spectrale beauté toutes les Castafiore du dimanche. Grace à ses onze minutes, Celestial Lineage semble être au Black Metal ce que le premier album éponyme de Worm Ouroboros fut au Doom atmosphérique, un joyau douloureux grondant d'une puissance souterraine. On retrouve ces incantations féminines sur "Woodland Cathedral", piste squelettique où le chant n'est souligné que par un lointain sustain de guitare abrasive.
Malgré une approche plus extrême, "Subterranean Initiation" étend un maillage atmosphérique crépusculaire cependant que "Astral Blood", écartelé par une pause acoustique belle et déchirante et "Prayer Of Transformation", long périple aux touches lancinantes vibrant d'un désespoir magnétique et nocturne, forment un tunnel de plus de vingt minutes où les Américains poussent à son paroxysme cet art qui puise sa source dans les entrailles de la terre et dans une nature sombre et mythologique.
Ce fasisant, ils signent leur meilleur album depuis Diadem Of 12 Stars, rien que moins et rassurent ceux qui regrettaient une exposition dont le genre n'a pas besoin... 8/10
